The brainchild of Swedish iconoclast, Ingvar Ohman, the QM 10 has been a cult product amongst the Scandinavian audiophile underground for a number of years. Ingvar spent eleven years working with Swedish universities studying the intricacies of human hearing and how for instance the curvature of the ear and the damping effect of the shoulders and chest alter frequency response. Based on these studies, Ingvar developed the QM 10 to uniquely deliver a flat frequency response in real world conditions at the ear drum as opposed to most loudspeakers which are wrongly engineered to produce a flat response in the totally alien conditions of the anechoic chamber.
Also, unlike the majority of loudspeakers which demand to be placed impractically in the middle of the room (in a vain attempt to simulate an anechoic chamber) the QM 10’s harness the listening room’s acoustics to enhance their performance. By utilising the wall against which they are placed the QM 10’s couple the room and use it as an extension of their own enclosures to produce the stygian bass traditionally only associated with the largest behemoth loudspeakers. The QM 10’s also uniquely utilise wall reflections to create their immense soundstage avoiding the narrow ‘sweet spot’ listening position of most loudspeakers and permitting you to get the full stereo effect wherever you are in the room. This attention to the real world rooms in which they will be inevitably used makes their performance uniquely repeatable in any listening space making them the least fussy loudspeaker you’ll ever use.
